Video games and your opinions ?!

Question

My step son is 7. He doesn't have friends nor does he know how to even make friends. He is constantly playing video games at his mothers house. Every time we ask him what he did at his mothers, it's always "I played my game". I was wondering what is other parents opinions on video games and time limitations. We do not allow him to play video games at our house because we feel he plays way too much at his mothers.

Do you allow your child to sit in front of the tv playing games all day? How do my husband and I confront his mother about game times? It's becoming a serious cause for concern, as all he wants to do is that and he does not want to make friends or hang out with other kids.

I'm not much help but know you're not alone. My step son is 7 and can't even talk to people or tie his shoes bc his mother lets him sit on a tablet all day instead of teaching him things he needs. My fiancé (his father) & I only get him once a month with my finance's work, so it's so hard to try to cram all the stuff he needs to learn into one weekend.

I let mine play all day. But simply because we're gamers too. So we all kinda sit and play all day. My kids do go outside and play bored games too. But 80% is gaming. I see there's no point to restricting them since they do other stuff on their own and we play all day too

My daughter is only allowed to play video games on non-school nights. So Friday, Saturday, and school vacations. Even then, she is limited to an hour at most per day, and doesn't get to play every day over school breaks. She's almost 6. I think parents are quick to give their kids video games, ipads, tvs, etc because it makes their lives easier. So much easier to let devices entertain your kids instead of having to get up and interact with them yourself.  Not knocking technology at all because my kid has all of these, plus a computer in her room, but she doesn't have unlimited access and she participates in activities that make her interact with other kids outside of school.
The amount your stepson plays seems excessive. Coupled with the fact he doesn't have any friends his age it's concerning. Maybe enrolling him in a team sport, soccer, basketball, or something could help with socialization. But I definitely think that you guys need to introduce limits if he is playing at your house and talk to his mom and get a feel of her opinions on it.

Do you know if he plays games with other people ? I do know that some kids actually play video games online with other kids and are uncomfortable with face to face interaction and prefer to play online with other kids. That's just my opinion from one aspect of it.

Does his father have a real issue with it or do you have majority of the concern?

Also maybe instead of confronting his mother you could ask her opinion on it if you all have that relationship and see if you all share a common concern for him playing video games. Maybe he is just being vague about the interaction at his moms.
