Tongue Tie
My son will be two months in 2 days. I was going to EBF him, but during my hospital stay the nurses couldn't get him to latch. I had 6 different ones come in, because their LC was out for the weekend. He latched twice, painfully, and I ended up saying this isn't right. So, anyways, after pumping endlessly unsuccessfully he is now completely switched to Similac sensitive. He has always played with the nipples, gulped air, and seemed to struggle with the bottle. Even more so in the last two weeks it has become much worse. He has become extremely fussy, bouts of crying fits to the point of arching his back, sweating, etc when it is time to feed and then being fussy 30 minutes to an hour afterwards. We began pace feeding, and longer burping sessions. We keep him up a minimum of 30 minutes after feeding. I've given him gas drops and they seem to help for a short time, now they don't at all.
I recently started looking into tongue ties because he has a heart shaped tongue. Many of the symptoms he is experiencing go along with tongue tie. Sent this photo to a pediatric nurse and she said that it needs to be cut.
I go in to his doctor the 13th of this month and am bringing it up then.
In the mean time I'm going to attempt using gripe water to see if it helps him ease some discomfort.
Anyone else have experiences? When did they do the procedure? Is it fairly painless for the child?
