Birthing Classes??

Question

Did you and your signifcant other attend birthing classes? If so, do you felt they helped with labor?

Before we had our first my husband and I took a few classes just because they were offered for free at the hospital where we were going to deliver, and they were fun. We even took an infant CPR class! I enjoyed them and I'm glad we did them but we didn't bother this time around. The nurses at the hospital are so helpful they show you anything you don't know how to do already. And I feel the hospital tour actually prepared me more for labor than the birthing classes! I was more concerned about what to do and where to go when I went into labor than the actual birthing process! I knew I wouldn't be alone through that!

Yes and YES!!! So so so worth it. And this from a chronic read every piece of literature, listen to every podcast, bookmark 1000 websites all related to birth and baby. If anyone had the head knowledge in advance, it was me.

I went to my first Lamaze class last night and we have 3 more in the series. I'm really glad I'm doing them because even though I've done research on my own it's nice to hear more input and to also get my SO actively involved. I'm the kind of person who gets really anxious about new painful things and I want to be educated and prepared to help stop that (I cried before my first blood draw because I psyched myself out and then I was fine when I realized it didn't hurt 🙄). I know I'll never know what labor is like until it happens but I'm glad to have some insight before. I say if you can afford it then it doesn't hurt to go, plus you can meet other new mommies in your area!

No amount of class can prepare you for what's gonna happen. Yes they give you an idea of what you feel is a way to handle labor but to me it was pointless waste of money. Just remember to breath do whatever makes you comfortable in labor and push like you're trying to take the biggest poop of your life

I am a registered nurse so I had a basic knowledge of labor from school, but I wanted my husband to go to class so he wasn't asking me questions during labor.

We BOTH learned things and it got him very excited for baby boy. I am so glad we went. For our next baby I  don't plan on going to any classes, but again so glad we both went to a class this pregnancy

I went to an all day Saturday class.  I found it pretty useless.  But my labor wasn't textbook.  My water broke at and I wasn't having contractions so I was given pitocin.  The class taught me "comfort positions" a term I now laugh at. Essentially do what feels comfortable- which becomes rather challenging towards the end.  Your body knows what to do- trust it.  Good luck! It's so worth it.

I've had two babies and I'm pregnant with our 3rd and we did not do any birthing classes. I read / did my own research and I felt comfortable enough. It really depends on how comfortable people are. I feel like we are made to do this so we know what to do, plus People never use to do birthing  classes, I feel like it's just a trend now.

We did not attend classes and did just fine. The nurses at the hospital we delivered at were extremely helpful.
