doc said he's engaged in the birthing canal?!

Question

35 weeks tomorrow & the doctor said today that baby is head down and engaged in the birthing canal. What does this mean ?!?! I've always had a weird gut feeling he would arrive sometime early.

It doesn't mean anything other than you are in late pregnancy and baby is preparing.

That's normal at that stage. I read babies usually engage between 34-36 weeks. It does mean he's getting ready for the big day but doesn't mean he's going to come early

All it means is that the likely hood of the baby turning transverse or breech at this time with be greatly reduced bc his head is engaged. All good things my friend! It won't really do much until your uterus starts contracting in a regular pattern with a strong enough force. Congrats! You're a step farther than a lot of moms!

If its your first all it means is baby is getting ready..mit could be 2 weeks it coyld be another 6 or 7. It just means he is head down and his head has slightly lowered into position. Engaging will help put pressure on your cervix and help you efface and dilate. Its a good thing and means whats needing to happen is happening...but it doesnt mean itll happen soon.
