First month on BC

Okay so I just started birth control this month due to acne (dermatologist recommended it) and I have been getting bad cramps right now because I'm supposed to have my period now if I was not on the pill, however I still go another two weeks until I am getting my period. I was wondering if this was normal? And I was wondering if I would even get my period at all since my body will be out of wack.
