Why sororities? I hate them.

Question

Help me deal with my hatred of sororities ladies!!

My girlfriend is in a sorority, the last guy she attempted to see is in a frat on her campus just up the rd. They have mixers together. She's underage and of course lots of drinking goes on, impairing judgment (I'm more concerned w guys taking advantage than her) as someone who has always disliked the idea of greek life it seems to me that the sorority fines and punishes and bribes these gis into attending meetings, parties, coming back from XMAS break 2 weeks early and various other copious amounts of extra curricular shit that only earns them the required number of points to attend ANOTHER huge party at the end of each semester. And it seems that all that comes of all this stupid superficial social experiments/shit shows is networking. IF YOURE LUCKY. And when was the last time an employer took into account which sorority you belonged to in college when deciding to hire you? NEVER.

The kicker: she's cross-country from me. And I can't do a thing about it.

What do I do!?!?

Well one, when you assume it's a bad thing all you will see is the bad. I loved every second on my sorority life and I met the man of my dreams In a frat nearby. My sisters were generally supportive, as much as 60+ girls can be. I didn't get along with all my sisters and I didn't approve of all their behaviors, but I still listened to there issues and held their hair when they puked on nights they drank to much. We didn't party every weekend. We had GPA minimums and study hours. The house was a quite zone during finals and a safe haven on breaks if you needed it. I wanted to be on campus early during breaks to have meaningless fun and maybe to drink. Most sororities focus on philanthropy and sisterhood, parties are secondary and normaly a reward for high GPAs and high rushing.

To answer your question since when have bosses looked for your sorority on the resume, I got my last two jobs due to my philanthropy and volunteering I did during my time in my sorority. It also helps with babe recongnition. I have met so many sisters and made many connections, I get discounts, information, help and friendship when ever a meet a sister. 
When I moved to a new city, my sisters were my first friends in the alumni org and they are still helping me find my way

I truly loved every minute of being in my sorority in college. Yes, partying is an aspect of COLLEGE life. Partying isn't just limited to Greek life. I went to just as many non-Greek parties as I did fraternity/sorority parties. I think that it's hard for someone that hasn't experienced Greek life for all the good that can come from it and see anything but the negative. For instance, the Greek community at my school put in more community service hours, donated more money to charity, and did more school sponsored spirit activities than any other group on campus all the years I was there. Members must receive a certain GPA each semester to in good standing with their organization. It's more than just finding a group to party with. It's about being part if something bigger than yourself. It's about learning what you are truly capable of doing to help improve the lives of those around you. I learned so much about myself and grew because of it.
