Video and Invasion of Privacy Laws.
This is going to be long and partiality a rant. Skip to the bottom if you want.
I came across videos of some man that acted as some type of Walmart vigilante today. He didn't work for the store, but he some times told whoever he was harassing that he was or blatantly that he didn't. Each video was this same man filming with his phone (never showing himself, of course) and insulting women who he for whatever reason thought was shoplifting. Which makes me think he loiters and follows these women around based on what they look like. (Several in loose clothes or black) All these videos were women, a few probably smaller than him based on the camera positioning and the womens eye contact with him. If he had more videos, I didn't see them in my suggestions.
They all ended the same way. Him complaining about how he's sick of "filthy" shoplifters in the store, asking for ID he doesn't have the authority to take, screaming, shaming them, then more or less chasing them out of the store. Each time he then turns about and does one of those obviously fake "I'm such a bad ass" laughs you'd otherwise only hear from a teen who just won something in front of the popular kids. 🙄
I'm not vouching for shop lifters, but not all of them are just scum bags with a thrill addiction. Some of them just want to eat or need things they can't get anywhere else. One woman one stealing food for example and another was taking kids school supplies. You would figure if this guy was clever enough to figure out that he can get a power trip out of yelling at frumpy, non-white or women smaller than him that he would figure out what targets aren't doing it because they want to. Contrary to popular belief, sometimes you CAN'T get help. Families don't help each other, friends can't help, you don't qualify for food stamps, wtf ever. Maybe it's some teen who's mom is too strung out to buy them food. Stealing is the only way people can survive sometimes and I genuinely believe most don't want to be that person.

What are the pros and con of being able to film anyone at any time without laws in place to stop it?
How do you feel about the ability to film anything and be able to share it publicly with little to know punishment, generally speaking?
If you feel the pros outweigh the cons for victims prevention reasons, then how do you feel about any videos reaching public eye instead of being only used at things as criminal evidence for the police?
