Anyone trying perineal massage?

Is anyone trying perineal massage to help prep for a natural birth?

Haven't tried yet (only 26 weeks) but my girlfriend who is actually a physical therapist specializing in perineal/low abdomen and back strength and mobility. She said starting perineal massage around 35 weeks can really decrease the risk of tearing during vaginal birth and also help with perineal and pelvic floor strength after birth. I'm still a little confused on how exactly to do it but gonna try!

I can't reach down to do it myself but hubby is awesome & is doing it for me been, doing it most days for about 2 weeks, it's not super comfortable but it gives me a chance to practice relaxing & breathing thru something that hurts! We're just using a pregnancy safe lube as opposed to an oil.

My midwife recommends it and actually did it during my delivery of my 2nd (who had turned his head just before labor got intense).. Definitely helped.. Also warm comoress (warm wet washcloth)...even during labor..

I use coconut oil because who doesn't love coconut oil?! I also played some hypnobirthing tracks and practiced J breathing and visualization to help me pretend like it's labor. Still not very comfortable lol but I think it'll get easier with practice.
