I understand breastfeeding is better, but it up to the mother... this seems so wrong and biased...

I breastfed all 3 of my kids, never formula fed. It's definitely good for them and especially their immune system, my oldest son brought home a few big illnesses home from preschool and his middle brother caught them all, my breastfed daughter either didn't catch it or got a very mild case of it, I attribute that to the breastfeeding. Love breastfeeding.  However I think this handout is very extreme and over dramatic. To say breastfeeding is 'normal' and therefore formula feeding is 'not normal' and that breastfeeding is a special relationship implying a formula fed baby will be deprived of closeness from their mother. ...no. it's great to encourage breastfeeding and destigmatizing it (my mom said when she had me, it was like only poor women breastfeed because they can't afford formula), but this handout is basically going to make a woman feel horrible if she can't or won't breastfeed. My son is now 4 and it's not like you can tell who was breastfed and who was formula fed. So in conclusion before I step off my soapbox: breastfeeding is great, but not THIS great, and I don't like things that imply negativity towards a mother's caregiving as long as baby has a safe stable environment. The end.

I don't think it's biased.....I think it's factual. At the end of the day a well fed baby is best!!! I plan to breastfeed for all the reasons on the article BUT if I can't for whatever reason I will not beat myself up. As long as my baby has,a full tummy and is growing & meeting milestones then I really don't care. Every mum out there needs to do what's right for them, their baby & their family. People need to keep their judgement to themselves x

Wow! This is quite ridiculous! I hate when medical professionals, or even people with no medical background put you down for the choice or lack there of from the mother. My mom wanted to breastfeed, but her milk actually never came in. They kept my mom in the hospital for a week, pumping her like a cow and making her feel awful about it. I just recently told one of the midwives that I've seen that I planned on breastfeeding, and she tried to high five me, hug me, and congratulate me like I found the cure for cancer.... I'm afraid of what she would've done if I told her I wanted the formula feed! No mommy should ever feel bad about how they choose (or not getting to choose) how to feed their baby. As long as the baby is GETTING food, that's all that should matter. If formula is so bad, they should come up with a new formula!!!

I have two boys. (Now pregnant with my third). The first was exclusively breast fed and never took a bottle. My second was exclusively bottle fed and never at the breast. Both are strong, robust, healthy handsome boys! You do what's best for you and baby! Only you get to make that choice!!

Baby being fed is the most important thing! However I dont think this is at all biased but factual. In my opinion breastmilk should always be the first choice because our bodies tailor make it specifically for our babies, so of course its the best option. That said, for so many reasons its not always possible and no mum should be made to feel bad if she has to switch to formula. But unfortunately there are way too many instances where breastfeeding is anandoned too quickly. This is an area i work in globally so i am talking from quite a lot of research and experience.
