rude to correct my grammar?

English isn't my first language and although I moved here when I was 11 years old (10 years ago), I speak mostly my language because I spend more time with my family than I do outside. My boyfriend who's American-born laughs and correct words and sentences I don't say correctly, and it just makes me feel embarrassed and annoyed 😑. Is it rude to correct someone's grammar like that?

He could just be laughing in a cute way. Not like a rude laugh but just watching you learn could be funny. Best you can do is just let him know how it makes you feel. Also correcting you isn't rude, you won't learn otherwise. It would be rude not to correct you because then you could just keep saying it wrong and not learn properly.

It depends on the delivery. If he's making fun of you that's not fair or nice. However, I think it would benefit you if you took it upon yourself to improve your English skills.

Maybe he laughs because it's cute? My ex is Bulgarian and I actually loved it when he made little mistakes. I would laugh and correct him but it was in an endearing way, never did I mean it to be rude. My favorite was when he once said "I have to go wash my teeth." 😂 Seriously adorable, and we are still great friends. Most men love a "foreign" or exotic woman, I bet he thinks it's cute. However without hearing it, i of course cannot tell.

Lol! My husband and I have been married for nearly 14 years. We were talking about wild hogs the other night and he referred to a female hog as a, "sow," and he pronounced it kinda like the word, "now," but with an, "s." I've only ever known it to be pronounced as, "sow," as in, "sew." So, I corrected him and then I laughed a little. He laughed too. It was no biggie. He's corrected me before too. It's just because we love each other and it's better to learn from each other, and be corrected by someone who you know, love and trust in the privacy of your own home, as opposed to being humiliated by a group of your peers in public, and you end up looking  like an idiot. The key, is just doing it in a loving way, and not making a big huge deal about it. If my husband were to be hateful about it, or if he were to tell me how stupid I was, then I'd probably feel like I was being abused. Does your bf make a big huge deal about it? Does he try to make you feel bad about it? Does he call you names? Does he make fun of you for it, or make you feel any less loved? And, have you tried talking to him about it? Or, giving him a chance to explain his intentions, his reasoning. What if that's one of the things he adores about you the most? I know, my husband has told me how cute I am at times with my little mispronounced words and sayings. Like I said, unless he's being abusive towards you, I wouldn't let it get to you. Most couples at some point or another are going to correct each other in some area or another, whether it's grammar, or something else...

I think if you do it politely and don't overdo, you will just be helping someone out. If I'm using a word incorrectly, i would like to know. If you're pointing it out just to try to insult me or you don't have a good argument, then it's wrong imo.

Story of my life! I have been here in the US here since 2009 & well, i lived 10 years in Mexico since I was about two years old until 12, and well of course I didn't know any English whenever I came to live over here so to learn a whole new language in less than 2-3 years was very hard for me so I have an accent & there's so many words I can't pronounce but at least I try. My husband corrects me all the time and makes fun of it but it doesn't bother me because he sucks at pronounce certain words in Spanish so we just kinda help each other & I make fun of him as well. I guess it just depends on how you take it. Not everybody gets to say that they are bilingual so fuck them if they make fun of you 😜

Even though English is my first language, I have dyslexia and stutter/ slur my words a lot. My husband is really good with English so he is constantly correcting me and it's just annoying af. So yes I find it rude because it's something I can't help.

It wouldn't be rude if he was doing it nicely and in a way that didn't embarrass you or make you feel bad. But the way he's doing it now sounds rude. Have you told him how it makes you feel he might not even know it makes you feel bad. Talk to him about it:)
