How do you know when your water breaks?

Question

I know it can happen all at once, or be slow. So if it's slow, how do you know? I'm a ftm so I'm sorry if it's a stupid question. I feel like something is slowly coming out, but barely.

My one time it broken I got up to pee, went back to bed 30 seconds later felt like I needed to go again. I got up and felt like I had peed my pants a bit. Then it dripped or leaked only if I moved. But I never had a giant gush

I've never had my water break but my mom's did and she said it feels gritty.

So first time I sat on the couch and felt a gush I was like uhhhh what lol then I got up changed cleaned myself and put a pad on (had L&D and they said wait 30 mins to see if it happened again) nothing. So I went to bed and woke up at 3:15 and soaked the bed on my side got up and changed again called my mom she said go ahead and go since we lived an hr away from the hospital. Called L&D again they said I was probably ok. Walked into the kitchen to get something to eat and there it went again so I went and cleaned up AGAIN and called L&D again they said take my time and come on in. My husband was like ok when I woke him up and decided to shave and shower and I was like freaking really like dude we need to go NOW ! So got all the way to the hospital and right as I was getting out of the truck it happened again. And I was wearing light colored shorts so looked like I peed. Great lol the nurse who told me I was fine got her butt chewed by another nurse when I told her what happened!

For my it was a big POP then 5 min later my under wear got soaked in blood when i got to the hospital 30 min later it gushed everywhere!!

Im not going to be much help i dont think lol cos With my first I had to have them broke and it just all come out like a big gush and that was it
