Umbilical cord around neck?

How can I prevent the cord from wrapping around my baby's neck while still on the inside? Is there something that causes this? I'm very scared…

It is not an emergency to have the cord around the neck, it's pretty normal. Babies don't breathe out of their necks yet so it's not like they'll be choked by the cord. The cord is thick and spongy and that's how they get the oxygen they need while you're pregnant. Don't worry!

You can't do anything to cause it or stop it. It's just one if the many things that 'just happen'. Honestly it's not worth focusing on the bad things. Just relax and enjoy your pregnancy

1 out of 3 babies are born this way so it's very common. If the umbilical cord is anatomically correct and you're not having any sort of pregnancy complication (low fluid) it shouldn't be an issue.

Unfortunately there is nothing you can do to prevent it. If your doctor is vigilant during delivery, they can figure those type of things out. You also have to be aware of any changes with your body and baby. Especially once movement is frequent. If the movement stops and youve gone through the steps to get your baby moving again (ie the candy bar.. Or some other sugar,  changed positions ect) and you still dont feel movement, contact your doctor. Good luck and try not to stress! :)

You don't need to worry! My daughter had her cord wrapped around her neck twice. They just unwrapped it during the delivery. She was born perfectly healthy. The only thing you can do for your baby is keep track of their movements, that's the best indicator that they are getting enough oxygen and are healthy.

One thing that definitely doesn't matter despite the tales: putting your hands above your head has absolutely no effect!

I don't think that there's anything you can do to prevent this? With my first child, when I was in labor and pushing, every time I pushed, her heart rate dipped and stayed low for too long. They rushed me in for an emergency c section and they found that the cord was wrapped around her neck. It was scary but she was fine and very healthy. 😀

Stress and also there's really nothing you can do. Just stay calm and relaxed during your pregnancy. You will be fine don't worry about the negatives

No nothing you can do. It's rare that it causes issues as the cord is thick and slimy.. try not to stress about it!
