Are nappy liners really needed?

We will be using flats and covers on our baby. We have everything, however we don't have any liners. Are liners (disposable or reusable) really needed if you don't mind scraping the solids?

After kiddo starts to eat more solids, his/her poo will usually peel right off leaving just trace amoints easily removed by your washer. We bought biodegradable liners and used them a few times before deciding we didn't need them. On the rate occasion his poo is not as solid you can just soak them for a bit in the toilet and it'll come odd that way. You can also get a spray attachment on the toilet too. All easy!
