Is HPV forever?

My friend and I are having a very heated argument. I've presented my sources (CDC, FDA, and PPH websites), and she's presented hers (Wikipedia), but she still will not listen to what I'm saying. So, from what you know, is the HPV virus forever? Warts and precancerous cells can be removed, but does the virus live in your body forever or is there a cure?

I HAD HPV. They biopsied it out and I no longer have it. I had HPV 1 though HPV 2 is different and can not be rid of so I've been told by my Dr anyway.

Virus's cannot be cured. I.e why there is no cure for the cold or flu. They can only be controlled. The reason why is because of how they work.

Being that HPV is a virus, like any virus your body develops antibodies to fight it off. Eventually it takes care of itself. My mom told me this info, which her gyno told her.
