Car Seat Poll!

It's been 7 years since I've had to care for a newborn and I'm weighing between an infant seat that detaches from the base, or the convertible style seats that stay IN the vehicle. I like the idea of leaving a heavy seat in the car and just carrying baby inside, but I see the pros in having an infant seat as well. What do you prefer and why??
