Diaper trash can??

Hey guys I need help deciding what kind of trash can to buy. Originally I was going to buy a diaper genie but my husband doesn't think it's necessary to buy a special trash can he says we should just buy a regular trash can and double bag it if we need to. We live in an apartment that has weekday trash pick up. What do you guys think, should we buy a diaper genie or a regular trash can?

After really researching reviews and you tube videos we have decided on a smaller stainless steel step lid trash can. With an odor shield or scented trash bag liner it'll do the trick and save lots of $$ on those "proprietary" bags.... Not to mention we can transition it to a regular trash can once we're past the diaper stage. Trying to be Earth conscience and frugal! :)

We got the arm and hammer diaper pail and we really like it. You could use a regular garbage can but I would worry about the smell.

We have just a regular diaper trash bin. Nothing fancy. No special bags. Works perfect. I wouldn't want anything else.

Loved diaper genie & getting a new one for this baby. You will be changing a lot of diapers & need an exclusive plan to store- and it does help with the smell :)

A diaper genie definitely works but I guess you could get by with out one. We used a diaper champ from babies r us. If worked just as well but it takes regular trash bags. Which is nice!

I have a diaper genie in my nursery and it works just fine, but when I change my daughter downstaira it just goes in the kitchen trash and I have never had an issue with it smelling in there either!  So you can go either way!!! If you choose a regular trash can, make sure it's a sturdy one with tight seal kid, if it's open it will smell.
