mucus plug and spotting after I lose it?!

So I had the dr. Check my cervix yesterday & found out I'm 2cm dialated at 37w! When she did the exam she pushed & showed me what a contraction would feel like. When the exam was over she told me I'd have a little spotting. I did and it was red/pinkish. I'm pretty sure my mucus plug came out after she did that too. I did have some spotting or what I would call "brown gew" for the rest of the day and I'm still getting some here and there today. Is that normal? Should it be brown?
