Hand expressing?

Ok breastfeeding is wonderful but I haven't had a full nights sleep in the 2 months since my sons birth because of it. I tried pumping and it was very annoying to be hooked up unable to move around. I'm looking into hand expressing but that looks like it takes as long as watching paint dry takes and my little one isn't that patient when he's hungry. Any tips on hand expressing? I know very little so any tips and advice on hand expressing are much appreciated :)
