Genital herpes ?

Question

Does anyone have them? If so how long did it take for you to realize you had something? Is it true its a much higher risk to get it when a sore is active?

I understand this can be an embarassing subject but i would really appreciate some feedback.

When I was 24 weeks pregnant I noticed I was having some burning when I peed, it felt like the skin between my vagina and butt had little cuts all over it, I went to my Ob and she said it looked like I knicked myself shaving and took swabs just to be safe and gave me a cream to use, I had a feeling it was something bad, Well the test came back and it was herpes, I freaked out, bawled my eyes out, went in to have blood drawn to see if it was hsv 1 (oral) or hsv 2 (std/genital) well that came back that it was hsv 1 , which gave me some relief , once it was gone I never had any issues , then a week after I gave birth I got my first cold sore :/

But yes, when its active it's HIGHLY contagious.

Also before I had been to dr about the herpes my so and I had sex while I had the break out not knowing that he was at a risk, and he has yet to show any signs of anything.

Herpes has such a negative stigma but most of the population has it And never has an out break so they are never aware they have it.

Men can be active and not show any signs.  I have it and I have never had any signs or symptoms or out breaks. The only reason I knew I had it was because my children's father cheated on me and I got myself checked out.

I was told you would usually have your first outbreak two weeks after first coming into contact with the virus.. & as previously stated it is very contagious when having an active..
