When did the dr start checking for dialation/effacement?

I'm doing weekly visits, only 5 more weeks left and no one's checked me yet.
Is that normal??

My Dr. checked last week (at 35 weeks) while he did the group B strep test. He asked if I wanted to be checked so I said "sure, might as well since you're down there." 😂 He said my cervix was holding strong haha

My doctor is not a fan of checking and I personally agree. It serves no purpose as you can be a 3 for weeks or you can be go into labor and go from a 1 to a 9 in a matter of hours.

It's not a good indication of when you'll go into labor so it makes more sense just to check it when you are in active labor.

Update: I should mention that I am preparing for a possible high risk delivery. My surgeon doesn't want me going past 38 wks. So my OB agreed to induce labor, possibly by C-section the 38th week. 
Problem is... Now my OB thinks my due date might be off by a month. Making me 38-39 wks! Lol I figured he would want to check for dialation to better prepare for delivery. Then if I wasn't coming along in that area We could all relax til the next ultrasound (next week)

But you guys have a good point. It really doesn't prove anything. I'm usually 4cm the week leading up to delivery. Drs always tell me not to sneeze or hiccup but it's never that fast or simple.

I got checked when I was in labour and that's it. But I think that's pretty common in Ireland to be honest.

I refused to get checked but they started offering at 36 weeks. Theres no reason in finding out. Just makes you think either "omg im not dialated baby is never coming" or "im dialated a little at 36 weeks i bet baby will be early!!" Which is almost never true. Dilation doesnt mean labor is near. So i saw absolurly no point in having someone shove their hand up my junk once a week

My doctor checked when he did the Strep B test, then not until I was 39 weeks.  Without contractions, those things don't really mean anything.
