Infant Reflux?

Infant Reflux? 
We have a 3.5 week old baby and are first time parents. Our son, Sven, has been diagnosed with infant reflux.

Our doctor said they only see a difference in 2 out of 10 babies when given medication and the risks outweigh the benefit if it doesn't work.  We're waiting it out to see if his esophagus valve will tighten up on its own. Ugh. Nerve wrecking!

Any tips on how to make him more comfortable? I'd like to know your story. When did it clear up for your little one?

What are you noticing in your baby? Wondering if my baby is struggling with reflux.

My son has it and we started him on the medicine. It has worked wonders with us so far. It's like we have a completely different baby.

I just found out today my little guy has acid reflux, he is 10 days old. My doctor said to try feeding him sitting at a 40 degree angle, and see if that helps first and then I go back next week. He said if he appears to be in pain though that I will have to weight his milk down with rice, and if that also doesn't work then we will try medications

That's a good call, I agree with your doctor. My daughter was in the NICU for 47 days and her entire last week was spent solely managing her reflux. It is(was?) very severe, to the point of causing apnea events. So imagine my frustration when they tell me the ONLY reason I cannot bring her home is basic infant reflux...and yet they will not give her a simple, infant approved antiacid?! I was beside myself they wouldn't just give her a fucking Zantac tbh. But after 24 hours and a lot of research I had no choice but to admit I was actually wrong. It's not an effective choice and it's success rate reflects so because it's basically abysmal. It's also lowers and already unimpressive immune system. This is not to say that there are no cases in which an antiacids pros would outweigh the cons. Its not common though..

Lyla's doctors have us doing rice cereal, feeding in a side-laying position, burping every half ounce, and always having her elevated for an hour after meals. We hold her, put her in the mamaroo, or in a bassinet we have which adjusts to the recommended 30 degree angle for reflux babies and can then be put back down totally flat for later since that is safest for longer sleep periods. We use mylicon gas drops which keep her from having a really massive burp long after after eating and refluxing. They're over the counter at any pharmacy.
With all this together it's managed so well that if I didn't know she has reflux, I would not guess it. She spits up no more than what you would expect from a baby, she doesn't cry in pain, refuse feedings, etc. I'm very happy with my decision to be patient and do my homework before going into full mama bear beast mode with those doctors. The neonatologists, as it turns out, know what they are talking about lmao.😂😳
