Welcome Baby Party?

Question

I don't think anyone is throwing me a baby shower and I feel really uncomfortable doing it myself. Mostly because people expect to give gifts at a baby shower and I don't want to throw a party for myself so people will feel obligated to give.

Despite this, I don't want this occasion to go unmarked and would really love a celebration. So, I'm considering throwing a party just to have fun and celebrate with family and friends. No gifts necessary.

What do you think of this idea? Any clever names for the party?

My mom is in school currently (so suuuuper busy) and I just don't think it would occur to anyone else that I might want this since I generally am not this way. I never had a bridal shower, etc. and feel like people just assume I don't want a baby shower. I'm 29 weeks and just don't see the shower happening. It's making me sad, so I want to do something to fix my issue.

I'm doing a Sip and See, which is basically a laid back gathering for everyone to celebrate and meet baby. You serve cake and small finger foods and beverages and that's about it. It's not super fancy, no gifts are expected, and it's low budget, but it's a nice way for a new mom and loved ones to celebrate the newborn without any pressure

In the south we have Sip and See's after the baby is born. Women get together and have brunch and celebrate the birth.

I am having a welcome baby shower.  I feel like a baby shower is celebrating the baby turning 0 and it is the biggest birthday they will ever have.  People should bring gifts in honoring her like baby child.  I won't be a big balloon, it is her party so she will be there.  You have to remember it isn't a party for you, it is a party for your baby.

Some people will have you a secret one never know. But for me I've had the party where everyone just come to have fun a celebrate kids in all kinda like a big birthday party. I always told people don't bring a gift and if they did that was nice but if not there presence was what I wanted 😀

I'm not a shower person either. I did a meet the baby party after the baby was born, you could do a light brunch or just cake/champagne I've also seen it called a Sip n See. If you have the funds to hire a waiter/waitress to help with set up and clean up or can ask someone (friend, family) to help you, that would be ideal. We bought table cloths etc ahead of time and just got fun stuff from costco (pastries, fruit) and my mom brought a couple dishes. It was nice because the party wasn't about me or gifts, and it cut back on individual visitors stopping by at various times to meet the baby.
