I have the IUD. The paraguard is hormone free. It doesn't regulate periods but can make you spot and have longer heavier, crampier periods for the first few months.

Due to medical reasons and not being able to hae hormones I can't give insight on the hormone one.

I had heavy, crampy, irregular periods. This actually did regulate my periods and they are only a week or so now. They heaviness didn't change. I also noticed that I have more discharge now a few days before my periods starts. Other then that I love it. It is also good up to 10 years and I don't have to remember to do anything.

I use the evra patch myself and have been for over a year now. I love it. It has made my periods lighter for most of it. The patch isnt suitable for every lady though, you should ask your doctor what birth control would be best..or even call the nurses hotline possibly?

I would personally recommend the ring. It's far easier than the pill because you only have to deal with it once a month, and much safer than the shot.

I can't comment on the patch because given my family history of breast cancer it isn't a good choice for me, so I don't know enough about it.

Hormonal methods of controlling your cycles can throw your body even more out of whack! They only ever mask the problem, never fix it! And when you eventually go off of it ie. To start a family or whatever reason not only can it take a long time for your system to go back to normal every issue that you have now will come back, sometimes worse!

I'd suggest going to see a naturopath or a Chinese medicine fertility specialist first! Usually when we are having issues with our cycles there is something out of balance within our bodies, and may just be that you need to change your eating habits or take some supplements!

Especially if you aren't sexually active please give this a go first! I regret so much having been on the pill for so long! I've now had a bubba and will never use hormonal methods again!
