How often do you get pap smears?

Last time I went was three years ago, then I got an abortion (medically necessary) but didn't get a followup checkup because I was too busy actually dealing with it. Got a letter from health canada saying I should get it every year for three years and then after that every three years I think?

Anyone have abnormal tests come back even though the previous one was normal?

Sorry I'm just a little paranoid now, probably going to go in the next week or two.
