Problems breathing during c-section

For those of you who had c-sections, did you have problems breathing during the surgery? I had an emergency section after about 30hrs in labor. I had already gotten an epidural (which wasn't working properly) so they had to supplement it with more anesthesia (they used fentanyl). During the procedure I literally felt like I was going to die because I couldn't breathe and my mouth was bone dry. Did I just have a really bad experience or is this relatively common? Just curious.
