Ok WTF. mobiles go in the crib I thought to help baby sleep. However, all my baby does is smile, laugh and coo at hers which keeps her wide awake & stimulated. Should I just get rid of it so she doesn't associate the crib with play?

What?! No!!!! Mobiles are fantastic and help your baby develop better vision throughout infancy and help connect different Nuro passageways in the brain.  They're stimulating for a reason.

Yep. Get rid of it. That's what mobiles REALLY do. Over stimulate and keep the baby awake.  Waste of money.

I kept mine but it has a sleep option that only lit the bottom part and played ocean sounds. I only did the top part when I needed to lay her in the crib to get dressed or pick up the room.

I read somewhere mobiles possibly work by simulating a predator circling the infant, hence why they would become more still, wide-eyed, or cry/make sharp noise. The stillness can still cause some children to fall asleep after a while though and obviously it doesn't work on everyone. I don't know if it's true but it was interesting.

If your child won't sleep with it you can try other methods to help your baby sleep, like a noise machine.

I was always told no mobiles so we never had them, and I have two good sleepers (and light-blocking drapes!)
