Money tight: is having a baby a good idea?

Question

Currently living on a very tight budget (even on deficit) on account of debt.

Getting married in April, planning on starting TTC right after.

Is it a good idea? Should we wait?

I have PCOS and the OBgyn made it very clear that it would be hard for me getting pregnant without medical assistance.

Most of what you're told you need for a baby you don't actually need. Much of what you need you can get second hand. I got so many hand-me-downs and shower gifts I didn't have to buy anything.

You'd be better off saving up your money and then trying.. Babies are expensive and so is the medical help you will need to conceive in the first place. I know its hard to wait when you have baby fever, I had to wait two years until we had our finances in order... Year trying with no luck on our own and now getting medical assistance... It is really expensive so unless you have money saved up I would wait otherwise you are only going yo cause more debt and financial burden on you and your S/O

I'm kinda in the same situation. My fiancé and I are on a really tight budget. He lost his job about a month ago and is still looking, and we are in some debt as well. We want a baby but we also want our fiancés to be much better. I know it's hard to wait to have a baby but if you feel like you have second thoughts then it's best to wait. Unexpected things do come up and you don't want to get uncomfortable. Good luck with everything! 😘

I believe it depends on your own personal situation. I had nothing when I had gotten pregnant but with all the support that came through, I have never had to go without and neither has my daughter.

My fiancee works for the federal government in law enforcement and I am a disabled compensated veteran. I also attend school full time for my masters degree in Human Resource Management. The VA pays for my schooling and I also receive a monthly stipend while I'm in school. We aren't rich. We don't own a home but we live in a very nice urban style condo. A one bedroom. We pay our bills on time every month and we have time, money, and addl resources(we both have a car, mine is paid off). With that said, we still question sometimes about having enough finances to care for a child lol. My mother keeps telling me, if we wait until we are completely ready, then we will never be ready. Because life still happens while we are all busy making baby plans and ttc. I calculated that I won't need to spend a bunch on baby items as I have eBay and OfferUp apps that I stalk daily to see how much a lot of baby boy or baby girl clothes will run me for the first three months. They grow so fast that you don't need to buy brand new, even baby furniture. Tap into addl resources like family or friends who have toddlers and ask them if they are willing to sell thier old baby items. I mean, I will still most likely buy very little brand new items, but everything else will be second hand. You can do this. Like the previous poster said, half the stuff you think you need, you won't need. Hope that helps. Now get on eBay and download OfferUp and see how cheap you can buy slightly used baby items. They have awesome deals.

Just as the last woman said... I feel your pain. Same situation here. Baby fever is really heavy in me and my husband's new apartment. But just as the last woman said, if you are having second thoughts, wait it out for a bit.... I know its so hard. :(

Well i dont know what pcos is, so maybe this isnt correct.  But you said very hard, not impossible.  Me i would enjoy my hubby and start saving my money.  Maybe see if you can have the baby without help, if not you are saving for when you can get the treatment.  Babys are expensive, but all they really need is to be safe, loved and fed, if you can manage to give them that then go for it.
