My Birth story

Yamini

As a ftm i wanted to keep things as natural as possible and hoping for a normal delivery but not knowing what to expect i was ready to just go with the flow. After passing my due date and trying everything possible to go in to labour i was booked in for induction at 40+12.

On 8th dec, a pessery was inserted to kick start my labor and i was told to go home as it can take up to 24 hours..well in my case it only took a couple before i felt a pop and small trickle sitting on the toilet seat. At this point I didnt know if my waters had actually broken or if my mind was playing tricks! I breathed through the pain as the contractions got more intense, it was time to call the triage. After one MW telling me to wait it out, 5 minutes later i get told by someone else to come in straight away and I'm glad I did because it turns out the hormone had hyper stimulated my contractions!

They decided to check if my waters had broken and got a faint positive and after 2 hours of monitoring i was given another hormone to slow down my contractions as otherwise my body and baby wouldnt be able to cope for long.

Contractions went on for the whole day and night before coming to a halt the next morning. At this point i had spent more than 24 hours walking, squatting, sleeping between contractions on the yoga ball which continued for another night before the MW decided to not wait any longer because of faint positive result and strip my membranes. On 10th Dec, at 7 am I was transferred to the labour ward and was 2-3cms dilated. I decided to go for Epidural because of lack of sleep and exhaustion and ladies I am SO glad i did because it took another 15 hours before it was time to push! My baby wasnt reacting well to Syntocin which is the hormone they were giving me to progress quicker. At last cervix check Doctor discovered that baby had pood inside and there was a risk of ingesting meconium. So i was wheeled to the theatre and prepared for C-Section. By this time i had dilated to 10 cms and doctor decided to give me one chance of normal delivery with help of suction cup. Fortunately baby was out after the 4th push but had to be resuscitated and needed oxygen support. My body went in shock and i ended up loosing 1.4L blood so also had to go through blood transfusion 🙄.

It wasnt a great experience but I am so grateful for how my baby fought for her life and to be able to hold her in my arms, watch her smile and achieve new milestones everyday 🙏🏼

Below are the pictures of my baby Aarya shortly after birth. At one month and now...
