breastfeeding and expressing? how hard is it?

I really want to breast feed and express so that dad can bind and also if I leave baby with anyone for a few hours etc. People are putting me off like, OMG it takes forever? Is this true? I've spent a fortune on a decent electric pump? Just trying to do what's best

I breastfeed and pump and I'm a FTM. Is honestly not bad.  The worst part is that it is a bit time consuming. But I like that I can freeze the milk I pump so that my husband can feed the little one once I go back to work since my hubby is going to be a stay at home dad. Don't let others discourage you. Breast milk is better for the baby than formula is and it's also free so at the very least give a shot.

I think exclusively breastfeeding for the first month or so is incredibly important, just to establish supply and routine. After that, I see no reason why you can't pump a bottle or two for hubby. I did with my first and it wasn't hard. The toughest part is the first two weeks when your nipples are calloused and cracked and it hurts, but you eventually get over it and it becomes a breeze!

It differs for different people. My friend just had a baby in Nov and she can pump and breast feed easily and switch between the two when needed. This is her second baby also and she did say it wasn't as easy with the first but with this one it is. It may be easier or harder than you think but you won't know until it comes.

I did that for the first months, I needed to stop because my baby didn't took a bottle. For me it wasn't hard, I did it sometimes in the middle on the night for 20 minutes (10 on each breast) and a couple times during the day. Now my baby is 14 months and still nursing.

Pumping is harder for some. I could hardly pump an ounce but have no problem nursing my son from my breast at 17 months. My sis in law however can pump an incredible amount per day! So much so she had to donate over 100 ounces! Good luck to you!
