1 or 2 embryos?

Question

So we're doing our first round of ivf this month. We are sure we only want 2 kids. Our doctor told us we have the option of transferring 1 or 2 embryos on transfer day. I can't lie, part of me wants to do 2 and get it over with! But I know there are added risk with twins like premature babies and more so I want to be cautious and only transfer one. So my question is...have you or has anyone you know, been pregnant with twins? If so, what problems did you/they face during the pregnancy?

I have transferred 2 embryos 2times and they were both singleton pregnancies..  Just because you transfer two doesn't mean they will both survive..

Of course it's ur own personal decision but if it were me, I would do two. 2 embryos doesn't automatically equal twins. Considering all that u go through during the IVF process and the $ spent, I would def give myself the best chance of it being successful :)

It's more of a cost thing I would think. You can transfer 2 and still end up with 1 or none. It's your best chance to transfer 2.

I glad twins. Overall I had a very happy & healthy pregnancy. They were a month early but went home on time. They were still fully healthy. I love having twins. They really do have an incredible bond. If I had the option I would have twins again. Good luck!

My RE told me that the success rate for transferring 2 embryos was the same as if you transferred just 1.  Given my age & the number of embryos we had, he strongly recommended just transferring 1.  Luckily for us, it worked!  Good luck to you!!

I only transferred 1 on Monday the 16th, mainly because the HCG levels that 2 would have produced would have over simulated my ALREADY overly stimulated ovaries and create a HUGE problem, literally. So the wait is on...praying for a BFP when I test on the 28th!

Thanks ladies. I had my retrieval year yesterday  (Friday) and they retrieved 36 eggs! I find out today how many will fertilize.

Good luck to everyone waiting!! My doc is giving me a choice of day 3 transfer (embryo), transferring two or day 5 (blastocyst) transfer of either one or two. 
I believe age and success rate is a big consideration, and that unethical docs will transfer 3 or 4 to get their success rates up.

I have had 2 friends do 2 embryo transfers. One had a singleton and one had twins. The one with twins had a horrible pregnancy - edema, carpal tunnel, pupps rash, etc - and pre-eclampsia so she delivered at 34 weeks. They were in the nicu for 4 weeks. If we were to go down that path, I think I'd only do one transfer each time. But each couple is different. Good luck with your decision.
