Are ultrasounds meant to hurt?

I had my 13 week NT scan last fri and she was pressing around my belly button area and it HURT! I told her it was painful and she told me she just needed to get one more picture... and today when my midwife felt my tummy in the same spot it hurt again... it's really tender in the muscles around my belly button. Is this normal? Thanks!

Yep, some ultrasound techs are anything but gentle. I've had a couple where I was sore afterward.

It's normal.
I had such bad pain and cramps after my first one that I went in for an emergency visit.
Baby was 100% okay and remains so.
They're just painful for me, and it's unfortunate but that's how it is.
Some techs are gentler than others, but even the gentlest makes me hurt.
