University help?

I want to get into a university! But I have a HISET (GED). I have never tooken my SATS or my ACTs. I have no idea how or where to start. Please help ? I don't have any family member that has been to college. I have tried to apply for financial aid and my mother forget her portion so I couldn't log in. We called and they had my mother send them a picture of her ID and her social security card. And they never got back to us. Any help ? Any advice ? I want to study out of state.
