anyone else annoyed by "tomboy"? why can't a girl like all things and still be girly?

I posted a pic of my DD wearing a "boys" onesie (blue with space rockets, planets , and stars) and someone said - oh she's already a tomboy.

1. She's only 2 months old and has no concept of these stereotypes/labels

2. Astronomy is my favorite thing to study and learn about

3. It's just overall annoying that if girls gravitate toward predominantly male activities they're tomboys and if boys gravitate toward predominantly female activities they're sissies ☹️

I had a family member have a go at me because my few days old son was swaddled in one of his older sister's pink blanket!  Lol. I'm like,  he's a newborn baby, he doesn't care about colours of items yet lol. But apparently a boy wearing pink can turn him gay....smh! People are morons, even if they are family lol.

I agree with you. Why should they earn the nickname of tomboy, when they are just children and they are all doing the same things? Like my daughter is a tomboy because she's climbing a tree for digging in the dirt? No! She's a kid! That's what kids do! And she's a tomboy because she chooses to wear blue? No! It's because it's her favorite color… The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, it's my favorite color too! She chooses monster pajamas over princess pajamas, because they're just more interesting OK! We don't need to put labels on our children, just let them be kids!

Agreed. I've had people tell me my 2 month old baby girl is going to have identity issues in the future because she was wearing a blue hand-me-down sleeper from her male cousin. I'm also not big into pink so she probably won't ever wear much pink. I just hate that even when we go out if she isn't wearing pink people assume she is a boy. I don't mind if people ask if she is a boy or a girl - so why are people so uncomfortable doing that? It's better than assuming she's a boy in anything other than pink!

My daughter has several rocket/space themed sleepsuits. I think it's a shame that the majority of clothes with that theme are in the boys section, aren't girls allowed to like science? Not that I pay any attention to sections. Clothes are clothes in my opinion. I buy what I like and usually that's brightly coloured stuff. We love a good rainbow!

My mil came out with a doozy the other week, apparently, my daughter needed the pink toy because people 'needed' to know she was a girl. I was like, no, they really don't. She's a baby. She doesn't need to let people know anything. Not that I think there's anything wrong with pink, I am reliably informed by my parents that I was a big fan of pink as a child and now as a 34 year old adult I dress pretty much exclusively in black and have a thing about skulls, so there's that!  Anyway! What I do have an issue with is the needless divide about what's for boys and what's for girls. Toys are toys, clothes are clothes, let's stop with the ridiculous gender stereotypes.

Agree!! It drives me crazy! My mil freaked cause I have a ninja turtle onsie and cape and she said that she needs to be in tutus and sparkles because she's a girl...no, she needs to be in whatever she (well, for now what I...lol...) put her in. Wearing ninja turtles for a girl doesn't make her a boy...it makes her a kid! And we wear tutus and sparkles too...lol.

My daughter has a rocketship sleeper! It's adorable! She also had a set of monster onesies from the "boy" section. Who cares? She's an infant. I'm not real girly myself, so I don't dress her in pink or ruffles very much. She rarely wears bows. When she's older, if she prefers all the pink and sparkles, then that's fine! She can be who she is. But saying rocketships and monsters and so on can only be worn by boys is just stupid. Or vice versa, if a boy wears pink or plays with a baby doll or wants a toy kitchen or whatever! Who cares??

It's all so twisted these days. My in-laws don't have any problem with a girl being a tomboy, but I know if we had a son, they would practically disown me if they saw him in a pink blanket. Boys have to be BOYS. By force if necessary. Eff that. If I have a boy, he can be whoever he is with no judgment. Same with my daughter. Anyone who tries to make my kids feel bad about who they are is going to get the full wrath of the mama bear! ;)

so hereis my 8 year old daughter and one month old son my daughter loves dresses and glitter and girly things but she is also a tomboy and climbs trees gets muddy and rough houses with her cousins and uncles in sparkly dresses no less ... i raised her to love what she loves and nothing is boy or girl defined if you love it or want to do it do it dont be afraid of her being called a tomboy because she can still be girly and love   doing things typically boys do.

My daughter looks great in yellow and one day I had a blue paci with a star on her and some lady at Target said my son was cute. I said thank you and she's actually a little girl. She told me I was dressing her wrong and going to confuse her. Lol shes 2 months old. Come on. 🙄🙄🙄
