Who pays for a first date?

If a man that you Met asks you out on a date, for example: to dinner. Would it be appropriate for him to ask you to pay or to pay half?

I feel like the person who asks the other person out on a date is responsible for the check.

If he asks then sure but please don't assume! I think whoever initiated the date should pay.

I think whoever asks for the date, should pick up the check. Part of asking someone for a date in my mind, is treating them to whatever they're going to be doing while getting to know the person. It's also polite if you want to offer to pay half, but I think asking someone to is kind of presumptuous

In his example the man since he asked however..I've always offered to pay and my date politely declined ..but I don't date anymore lol and my husband and I switch up who pays for what meal
