cervix check??

Just curious, what's the point of having cervix checks before you officially go into labor? I see so many women say they are 1cm dilated or whatever a week or 2 before they go into labor. Is there any benefit to getting checked? I honestly just don't get it. I feel whether you are 0 or 3, it still doesn't matter until you go into active labor. Am I wrong?

There is absolutely no point until you are in labor. I was between 3 cm and 5cm for three weeks with my second child and each appointment they would say oh should be the next day or two.  It was frustrating and pointless because they don't know what my body is doing.. I have requested not to be checked this pregnancy unless I'm in active labor.

I'm not 100% sure but sometimes woman experience cramping or signs of possible labor and once your so far along it's hard to tell because not everyone's water breaks. Sometimes the doctors need to break it. And so if someone isn't sure and the doctors have them come in they will usually check to see where you are at.

There isn't really a point unless you have complications, bleeding, risk of premature labor, etc. Otherwise, you can say 'no thanks'. They aren't mandatory. You're in control of your own healthcare, so it's your choice. I didn't have them and went into labor at 38 weeks exactly. My doctor checked me the day before (just my belly) and said she wasn't near ready. My water broke 24 hours later.
