heartbeat at 6 weeks but fetus too small to see...?

Hi everyone! Had my first ultrasound today-- believed I was 7 weeks pregnant and tech told me I was 6 weeks 3 days... we could hear the heartbeat but the tech couldn't see a fetus or said the fetus was really tiny. Has anyone experienced this? What does it mean?? Can't see my doc until Friday and I'm so concerned / upset.

Try not and freak out! I'm an ultrasound tech, and sometimes the fetal pole is right up against the wall of the gestational sac. So since it is soooo teeny tiny, it is really had to see, but you can still see the flicker of the heartbeat because of the motion.  Does that make sense? Everyone is a little different and it just depends how everything has implanted and how your uterus is positioned. The important thing is that little flicker, so try not to worry momma!!

Don't be upset. You really don't start seeing a "baby" until about 9 or 10 weeks. You're still very early in your pregnancy and the cells are still developing. So hearing the heartbeat is a great sign at 6 weeks. Most of the time you really only see the fetal pole, yolk sac and gestational sac.

I was 6w and either 1 or 2 days yesterday, and we got to see the heartbeat and the baby, but the baby was pretty teeny tiny. Did they do a transvaginal ultrasound? That was how we saw my little.
