Needing Advice!
So I'm young (21), and have only been adulting on my own for 3 years and never been in this situation before. I'm hoping some of you ladies with experience will help me out!
I'm pregnant and due late March. I planned on quitting my job on March 18th. With my fiance and I's finances the way they are, we need me to work until the 18th; I cannot quit or get fired early. Well, we recently had to relocate to the other side of the city. I take public transportation to and from work, and where we just moved, I cannot get to work until 9AM, which means I will be an hour late to work every single day. So here are my options:
1- I could *try* talking to my manager about this, and hope they're willing to work with me. The plus side to this would be if they did work with me, I wouldn't have to stress about if I'd have a job or not, and I'd be able to leave on a good note. The downside is I have not turned in my resignation notice yet. The reason for this is the company is notorious for firing people early when they turn in their paperwork, and I cannot afford for that to happen. I also know if I let them know this, I will be admitting that I will be late every day, which could lead to them watching my schedule adherence, which would give them a valid reason to fire me early when they see that I am showing up late. Also keep in mind, I have talked to them in the past about getting my schedule accommodated for the same reason (transportation issues), and they did not accommodate me at all, and actually told me I should work more overtime so I can afford Uber or a cab if my bus doesn't run when I get off (I was working until midnight, worked MORE than the required hours of overtime whenever they asked me to, and I'm one of the top 10 performers out of an office of 381 people, so should have had a better schedule to begin with and they knew it)
Or
2- I could choose not to tell my manager and hope they don't notice my attendance until I've already quit. We have a points based system for tardies and absences (12 points is the limit before you're fired). With my points how they are and how the system works, I know I could work at least until the end of Feb before I reach 12. This is kinda risky, because some people are able to get up to 15+ points before they're fired, but some get fired as soon as they reach 12. So I don't know, it would entirely depend on if management happened to notice before the 16th or not if I'd get fired..
So what would you ladies do? Which option do you think would give me the most likelihood of working as long as possible? Any other advice on this?
