Low Placenta

Last ultrasound appointment the radiologist let me know that my placenta was low. I'm going in tomorrow to confirm. Doctor says if in fact it is I might need to get a c-section. Anyone that had a low placenta what was your experience? I'm feeling uneasy because the whole c-section idea flew right over my head and I didn't think it was even an option since my first delivery went so smoothly.
