What do y'all think about the copper hormone free IUD?!

I was thinking about getting Paragaurd. I want some reviews, y'all.

Hey!

I thought the Paraguard would be the answer to my birth control needs.  It ended up causing me to bleed heavily (like changing a overnight pad every 2 hours) for a month after insertion, and have crazy cramps and heavy periods. After a while I would constantly cramp even when I was not on my period, and after almost a year with it having painful sex and constant cramping I got it removed.

I think that the paraguard can work well for some people, but for me it was not worth the pain. And I would caution anyone before they get one as my experience had repercussions like vaginismus.

With that being said, In my personal experience:

PROS: 
-24/7 protection 
- lasts up to 12 years 
- hormone free (this was a big one for me)

CONS: 
-painful insertion 
-heavy bleeding 
-heavy cramping
-risks like perforated uterine lining 
- pain during sex (which resulted in vaginismus)

Honestly, I do not recommend it, but it may be a great option for you! I use Fertility Awareness Method now and am glad that there isn't anything in my body :)

I suggest checking Fertility Awareness Method out as it is extremely low cost, super easy, hormone free, and gets you in tune with your body!

Love it when i'm not constantly bleeding. I went through a tampon AND pad in 3 hours on my first period with my paragard. I also have reoccurring BV and according to my midwife it's because of the iud. Definitely switching offices though just because I'm not a big fan of hers.

I personally had bad experience with iud. I know some ppl who have this one and are happy with it. One developed bv but is treating it naturally and that seems to be working. They don't mind the bv as a tradeoff for what they get from the iud. It did take a few months for period to regulate again. They did have some random spotting in the first few months. Another friend has heavier periods with this iud but also things it's a fair tradeoff... Whatever you do, make sure you've done you're research and are confident in your decision. I've heard copper can cause toxicity (Google will have more details) and if there's a package insert that normally comes with thus iud I would recommend you read it before deciding since it would outline the risks.
