On the pill, spotting?

So I'm on the pill and I only take the active pills so I don't get my period. I haven't gotten my period in four months and just a couple days ago I started getting cramps like I was going to get my period, and gassy and bloated like I always did when I was on my period. However I went to the bathroom and wiped. It was really just spotting (normally my period was crazy bloody and whatnot) but it was more of a brownish color than it was red. I've never had spotting before so I guess I don't really know what color it's supposed to be 😂 I know brown usually means its older blood, but is that normal for spotting?
