bonfire?

Question

So hubby and I like to have a little fire in our backyard. It's our favorite thing to do but we haven't done it since we had our son. He's now 7 months old and I'm wondering when is it safe to have him around it?

We have a fire pit and I was going to take my LO out there but as soon as I opened the door I could smell the smoke so I decided against it. When everyone came in they smelled strongly of smoke/wood. I forgot that smell...!!! Anyway, I just personally feel it's a bit too much for a little ones lungs, but it's a personal opinion/choice.

We've always had our son out around a bonfire in our yard, he doesn't seem to mind at all I just keep him up wind and away from the smoke.
