too young for an iud?

I'm 17 and the pill- two different types- hadn't worked well for me. I originally started talking it to have more regular periods but now I'm having sex and it's even more important that it works. I would really like an iud. But I don't know if I'm too young. My doctor would really like that I try another type of pill but I'd rather just try something new. Thoughts?
