what is socially appropriate?

When you are informed that someone on your Facebook was brutally murdered but you haven't spoke to them since high school and weren't even more than acquaintances back then is it okay to delete them as a friend? 
 
Genuinely not sure what social decorum dictates... I've never known anyone to die so seeing her pic freaks me out a bit because I think of the details of what happened and how I guess it really can happen to anyone.... That being said I barely knew her 10 years ago and see no reason to keep her in my friends list. I went through and deleted several people I don't speak to but due to circumstances wasn't sure if it is disrespectful....

My best friend died in front of me 11 months ago and I can't imagine deleting him off of anything. Idk. That's how I hold on. But at the same time, if this is someone you're not comfortable keeping on, then delete him. It doesn't make you a bad person or selfish. :)

When my husbands biological father passed away in deleted him. At first I kept him on my Facebook but someone started getting on his profile and started poking me. So I deleted his facebook. My husband met him back in 2007 and we've only seen him a handful of times.
