Braxton Hicks... yes?

Question

I will be 37 weeks tomorrow and have experienced little to no Braxton Hicks (not really sure)! Is this normal? Does his mean I may not be as sensitive to the real thing?

Not everyone gets Braxton hicks or has them a lot. And from what I hear (I am only 27 weeks so haven't given birth yet) they are totally different. Braxton hicks aren't painful they just make your stomach hard and your uterus tightens. Contractions I've heard are more painful and most of the time start in the back and move their way to be front. They will also be more consistent and get more painful as they go.

I just learned from my midwife yesterday that I've probably been having them and didn't realize it. I thought it would be my whole belly getting tight/hard but they can be smaller and not cover your whole belly and recently I've been having them just in the front/lower area of my belly. I even had a little one when I laid down for her to do the heartbeat. She said it's common for women to have them just switching positions like that. Just like everything else in pregnancy, each woman is different and experiences them in different ways!

I thought bh was supposed to hurt like a labor contraction but it turns out it's just a squeezing of the uterus. Once I learned that I realized I was having them but they just don't hurt me- I figured it out just because I normally can feel a hard spot where baby lies vs the rest of my uterus being softish. When I have a bh contraction, the whole thing is hard

Not always braxton hicks are usually pretty painless anyway. However I found my braxton hicks with my son to be more painful than my actual contractions. X
