Did any of you ladies that had a c-section experience low milk supply afterwards?

I have to give my baby boy formula because I'm not producing enough. It breaks my heart because I wish I could EBF but I know that he needs to be supplemented. I'm wondering if the c-section and pain meds have anything to do with the low milk supply? Did any of you ladies experience this also??

I had an emergency c section after being in labour for 15 hours and yes it lowered my supply. The whole "only 2% of women actually have issues" is unhelpful information as it's misleading. If all is normal and no outside issues exist then yes only 2% have issues but if there are medical issues happening within the mothers body that too can interfere. I power pumped, took meds, had a lactation consultant and was still only able to produce at most 50 ml after an hour from BOTH breasts combined after 5 weeks. I was so swollen and full of fluids that I lost 40 lbs over the course of 3 weeks. My legs felt like balloon sacks they were heavy and swollen. I ended up with an infection and had to go on such a high dose of antibiotics that I couldn't breastfeed anymore and had to switch to formula. It took me a long time to be ok with that decision and I was really really mad at my body and felt like a failure. But I've made peace with it now. Fed is best. My dr told me that the excess fluids in my body and amount of healing I was doing interfered with my body's ability to produce milk. I had a really rough recovery. Everyone's different.

No.i had plenty of milk with both of my c sections

I was able to breastfeed as soon as I was in the recovery room. The first 3-4 weeks I was over producing. I took advantage and pumped and froze. Now at 17 weeks, have no issue and I am able to pump 6-9 oz while at work. Baby girl has gained almost 9lbs since csection. This was my second pregnancy but first time being able to breastfeed. I also had a vaginal birth with my first.

I didn't but I also took very few pain meds and ate as healthy as possible. (Hospital food...yuck)

I breast and sometimes bottle my little one is on small side so I got the go ahead for it even though some people frown upon it. My daughter knows the difference between my breast and the bottle. I just can't keep up with her wanting to eat all the time

After I gave birth my boobs stopped filling in, especially lack of the colostrum. At about 4 days pp my boobs engorged, I pumped and then all of sudden my supply was gone. But I bottle feed, but my supply seemed lower than it should've been

I had a c section on a Tuesday and I would latch lo and pump and I would never pump anything out. I started to see milk or colostrum on a Sunday so I would do formula. And for two months I would only produce 1oz from both when I would pump and LO would want to eat all the time. But I had several complications; got induced twice had a blood transfusion due to almost bleeding out during surgery I have pre exciting thyroid problems and had gestational diabetes. I had plenty of issues but thankfully my LO is now 8 months old and I still breastfeed most of the day and she's happy but she also gets two bottles of formula a day. Some breast is better than none. I'm happy with that 😄

I had the problem of having inverted nipples, and giving birth via c-section so it was super difficult for me. During pregnancy nothing came in, after birth my supply was extremely low. When I was in the hospital the hard part was getting Viviana to latch on since both nipples are inverted, and the lack of supply led me to supplement with formula through a small tube. It was so difficult for me because I needed to hold her, attempt to match her on, and hold the tube in between my breast and her mouth to feed. I needed an extra person to help and i couldn't do it on my own so I had to switch to formula. I've always wondered if because of my c-section it caused me to produce less, so Ita interesting there's more women with the same problem.
