prep for late d&c??

Hey all. Sadly I'll be 15 weeks pregnant when I get a d&c done this Tuesday... just want to know what the doctor will do to prep me before I go in. Any advice or experience stories would really help...thanks.

I didn't get any prep to be honest. You'll sign in to inpatient ER, you'll wait for hours before they'll get you in. They give you a packet detailing the procedure but no one explained anything to me. Then they take you to a bay area and give you IV fluids, and then you're family will join you until it's time to go. The anesthesiologist will come and ask some health questions, then they'll wheel you into the OR, and put you to sleep. Then you'll wake up back in the bay area. They'll give you some ice chips because you'll be very thirsty. And no one told me thing, and it scared me because of it, but when you wake up you'll more than likely be sitting in a lot of blood, because you've been bleeding in your sleep, and they just place a small pad under you. You're going to be very dizzy and very sore. But the meds they give you will help. You may bleed for 2 weeks or so. And expect large clots. I'm only saying all of this so you're prepared. I'm so sorry you're having to go through this too. You'll only be permitted to use pads, no tampons. Also, don't eat or drink 12 hours before you go in. It's scary, but once it's over, you'll be okay. And if you have any particular questions or thoughts, please feel free to ask me. I had an 11 week d&c, so I know how crummy you must feel. Again, I'm so sorry.

I'm so sorry. There isn't any prepping for you to do.  It's done under anesthesia so you won't be able to eat after midnight.  They'll give you an IV in your arm pre-op and will give you some relaxing medicines right before you go in.  You won't remember anything.  You'll have cramping and some bleeding after, similar to a period.  Usually ibuprofen is adequate for pain control but they'll send you home with something stronger as well.
