When is it ok to think about taking a baby on a long haul holiday?

I think it's up to the parents. I personally wouldn't travel before 6 months unless it's an emergency. That way your baby has the first 3 rounds of shots and can wear sunblock and bug spray. I however would also only travel to countries that provide good medical care in case of emergencies. I was in Germany with my daughter when she was 7 months and it was so hard on her. The time difference was the worst and she wound up getting a sick (we were there during cold and flu season). I didn't get to enjoy it at all. With my next child I will definitely wait till they are at least 2 years.

When ever you want. I personally would wait until first set of shots (and make sure they stay up to date or can be given where ever I go). But I took my daughter from GA to CT when she was two months old for almost 3 months to visit family when my husband was out to sea
