Ongoing debate! Thoughts?!

Okay so I know many people feel differently about this topic but my baby just turn 3 months old. I've been thinking about getting her ears pierced and am constantly going back and forth with the idea. I went to a reputable jeweler (being that her doctor doesn't pierce ears) and they said they do babies younger than her all the time. They also recommend using antibacterial ointment instead of the solution most places send you home with to clean the ears because they feel it is less harmful than alcohol. I'm not looking for negative feedback because I know some moms are soooo against the idea of piercing a baby's ears. Just want to hear any other moms experience and if they used ointment instead of the alcohol solution. Thanks!😊

I have a boy. So my opinion may not count. BUT I personally wouldn't get my baby's ears pierced. Not every girl is super girly and would want them. I would wait until my daughter asked for them. If you are dead set on it though please go to an actual piercing place. Call around and find a tattoo shop with a professional piercer that will do it. Those piercing guns in jewelry stores l damage your ears so badly and they are filthy. Google it.

I'm having a boy, but if it were a girl then I would wait until they were old enough to understand the process and ask for it to be done.  My mother got my ears pierced when I was very young (I don't recall my age, but I was a baby), despite her taking care of them they got infected and had to be taken out.  Fast forward a few years to when I was about 5 years old (I actually remember this) and tried to get them pierced again.  We just went to a jewelry shop in the mall that pierced with a gun (mind you, the year is 1988, lol) and I got one ear done no problem.  The gun jammed while partially in my second ear and I absolutely refused to let them do anything else to me ear after they got it out.  It was horrible.  I had only one ear pierced until I was about 10 years old because I was petrified.  As with everything, there are risks involved and it's up to you to determine if you want to take those risks.  Good luck in your decision!

When my daughter was born, I really wanted her ears pierced. I loved how sweet baby girls with earrings were. However, I didn't get it done, and finally let it go.

Fast forward to now: I was looking at her the other day (she's 3now), and thinking that I'm grateful I didn't get it done. She's so active and playful, I  glad I didn't have the added anxiety of worrying if her earring would get caught on a shirt or blanket or even a toy or something. I don't know if it is a common fear, but it would have been for me.

So, I encourage you to consider both sides. I know this isn't what you asked, and I apologize I'm giving an opinion other than what you asked for. However, I ended up NOT getting my baby girl's done, and I've actually never regretted it. Good luck with your decision. Whatever you decide will be the best for you and your little one!

I had my daughter's ears pierced at 3 months. At the age of 5 she decided she didn't like having her ears pierced and stopped wearing earrings all together

My mil got her adopted babies ears peirced at 1 year and they got infected after 3months. So bad they had to be removed and she has slight scarring. If i have a girl i want to make a mommy and me day out of it like my mother did for me. They really need to be taken care of!! Hope you choose what is best for your daughter and you. Goodluck momma.

My twin and I both got our ears pierced very young and she yanked mine so hard I had terrible keloids that I very narrowly avoided surgery over as a baby and had keloid problems all through elementary, middle and high school in the same ear.  I swore my 8th time would be final and it worked without keloids but still, I wish my parents had waited until we were older.

I wouldn't but you do you, it's nobody else's business. Also, don't go to a place where they use those little piercing guns. They're so packed with bacteria, you're basically begging for an infection and it's going to be hard enough keeping those earlobes clean on a baby.

I wish I would have done my girls ears young. My oldest got hers done when she was 4 and then again at 5 and she doesn't have them anymore. My youngest got them done for her 4th birthday and not even 6 months later they're out.

Both my and my second sister got our ears pierced when we were little. But my youngest sister didn't, my mom wanted to wait until she made the choice.

She got them pierced around age 15, and she always says it was so scary that the whole search for a reputable parlor, getting informed over the pros and cons, PLUS the actual procedure and all the care afterwards were actually MORE traumatazing than my mom having her ears pierced whe she was a baby.

This is why, If I ever have a daughter, her ears are getting pierced when she's still a baby and I can care for her. Not really appealing to me to give her one additional thing to worry about when she grows up.

I had my ears pierced as an adult, at a tattoo parkour and the only thing they recommended to use was a saline soak.
