can I forward face my baby's car seat?

I just bought my year old son a convertible car seat( gravo extend to fit, 65) I read I can forward face him if he's 22 pounds or more, he is 27. Can I actually do it? I read that's it's a big no no in this app but then why would the manual say it's okay? 
I live in California btw .

I'm in California also. It's the law that car seats must be rear facing until the child is two years old, unless they are over 40 lbs or over 40 inches long.

There was a recent change to the law as of January 1st of this year I think where they have to be rear facing until 2 years.  Not sure if that's nationwide or just for specific states, so yeah best to check w pediatrician or local police/sheriff office.

You should leave them rear facing as long as possible, it is the safest position. Why are people so eager to turn them around?? People are such bad drivers now that I'll do everything I can to keep my baby safe.

For the safety of your child you should really leave them rear facing until age 2 if not longer! I really wish I would of done my research with my first, I turned her at 1 and it's so unsafe if we were to get into an accident, my son will be staying rear facing until at least 2 hopefully until 3 or 4.

No. He needs to be rear facing until at least two years of age. Ideally a child should read face until they max out the rear facing limits of the seat which is usually 40lbs. Height limits vary from seat to seat. I'm pretty sure California law is rear facing until age 2.
