black poo?

So I was prescribed iron supplements and I've been taking them for about a week now. Lately my stomach is so upset and today I straight up black diarrhea! My stomach is still upset and I'm wondering if it is the iron. Anyone relate?

Iron pills cause black poop. Your body is probably adjusting to them

Black could indicate blood in stool. Might want to get it checked to be safe. Dark is normal for iron but black is another thing

Iron suppliments are known to cause constipation but what a lot of people don't realise is that one way the body gets over constipation is to have a bought of diarrhoea to clear everything out. Gah!!! I've been on iron suppliments for a few years and have four days of constipation and two days of diarrhoea. I don't suffer from stomach pains much anymore though - thank goodness!
And the dark colour is normal on iron. 
If you're really uncomfortable then talk to your dr. You might be able to be admitted to hospital to have an IV iron infusion instead. It may need to be repeated every 6 months but at least you wouldn't have any tummy upset.
